When these parts begin to wear out or operate under stress, they can vibrate at a frequency that produces an audible buzz. Another factor is inconsistent electrical flow. If the outlet or internal wiring delivers uneven current, certain components may respond by vibrating. This is especially noticeable when the toaster is actively heating, as the expansion of metal parts can amplify the vibration.

When the heating elements are activated, they create slight vibrations that can cause these loose parts to rattle or buzz. The metal casing of the toaster can act as a resonator, making even small vibrations sound much louder than they actually are.

Crumbs and debris can also contribute. Over time, crumbs can accumulate inside the toaster and interfere with moving parts. If debris gets lodged near the lever mechanism or timer, it can cause friction or uneven movement, leading to noise. While this might seem minor, it can significantly affect how smoothly the internal components operate.

This is not only damaging to the toaster but also increases the risk of fire. Even if the toaster continues to function, the presence of a loud, persistent buzz should not be ignored.

However, distinguishing between harmless noise and a developing fault is not always straightforward. If the sound is noticeably loud, irregular, or getting worse, it is generally safer to assume that repair or replacement is needed.

Checking for visible damage to the power cord, ensuring the toaster is placed on a stable surface, and emptying the crumb tray are simple steps that may reduce noise. However, opening the toaster to inspect internal components is not recommended for most users, as it involves exposure to electrical parts that can retain charge even when unplugged.
